Amritsar (Punjab), December 5, 2025 — Former Deputy Chief Minister and MP Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa met Giani Kuldeep Singh Gurgaj, Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, to lodge a strong protest over alleged misconduct during the nomination process for Block Committee and Zila Parishad elections in the Dera Baba Nanak constituency.
Randhawa submitted a memorandum demanding strict action against AAP MLA Gurdeep Singh Randhawa, accusing him and his supporters of disrespecting the Sikh turban and hurting Sikh sentiments. He claimed that during the nomination process, supporters of the MLA threatened Sikh candidates, forcibly removed their turbans, and hurled abuses — behaviour he described as “crossing all limits of hooliganism.”
He further condemned the MLA’s reported remark attempting to trivialise the incident: “What is there in turbans? They keep falling off.”
Randhawa urged the Akal Takht Jathedar to take immediate disciplinary action in accordance with Sikh maryada, stressing the need to uphold the sanctity of the Sikh turban and ensure such disrespect is never repeated.
Majitha constituency in-charge Bhagwant Pal Singh Sachar and Udaivir Randhawa accompanied him during the meeting.
