Amritsar (Punjab), January 6, 2026: In a major crackdown on trans-border drug smuggling under the Punjab government’s drive to make the state drug-free, the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF), Border Range, in a joint operation with the Border Security Force (BSF), recovered 19.980 kilograms of heroin and arrested four accused, including a juvenile, on Tuesday.
Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav said the operation led to the arrest of Sahibjit Singh alias Sahib and Rajwinder Singh alias Golu, both residents of Old Naraingarh, Amritsar; Ashu Sharma alias Ashu, a resident of Chheharta, Amritsar; and a 17-year-old juvenile from Amritsar. Police also impounded a Maruti Brezza car and two motorcycles used in the crime.
The DGP said preliminary investigations revealed that the accused were linked to Pakistan-based handlers and were actively coordinating the delivery and distribution of heroin consignments across the region. Further investigations are underway to identify cross-border handlers, trace supply routes, and dismantle the entire smuggling network.
Sharing operational details, SP ANTF Border Range Gurpreet Singh said specific intelligence inputs indicated that the accused had moved towards the border area to retrieve a heroin consignment smuggled via drone. Acting swiftly, a joint ANTF-BSF team laid a naka at a strategic location and intercepted all four accused along with the vehicle used in the operation.
Based on disclosures made by the arrested individuals, a joint search operation was conducted near BOP Ghogga under the jurisdiction of Police Station Bhindi Saidan in Amritsar district. During the search, police recovered 19.980 kg of heroin packed in five packets from agricultural fields near village Bhindi Aulakh.
In this connection, FIR No. 06 dated January 6, 2026, has been registered under Sections 21, 25 and 29 of the NDPS Act at Police Station ANTF, SAS Nagar.
