Chandigarh, January 19, 2026: Punjab Health Minister Dr Balbir Singh on Monday announced that the Mukhyamantri Sehat Yojana, providing cashless medical treatment up to ₹10 lakh, will be formally launched on January 22, 2026. He said the scheme fulfils the commitment of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal to ensure quality healthcare for every household without any financial burden.
Addressing a press conference at the AAP office in Chandigarh, Dr Balbir Singh said the government will itself go door to door to issue Mukhyamantri Sehat Cards free of cost, making it clear that the entire process—from card preparation to medical treatment—will be completely free.
Warning against fraud and exploitation, the Health Minister said strict action would be taken against anyone making fake health cards or charging money under the scheme. “Anyone found charging even a single rupee or preparing fake health cards will be arrested,” he said, adding that the Mann government follows a zero-tolerance policy against corruption.
Referring to complaints from Muktsar and Mansa, Dr Balbir Singh said cases of illegal charging had come to light, where individuals were collecting ₹50 for making health cards. “The accused have been suspended, their licences cancelled and FIRs registered,” he said, asserting that such practices would not be allowed under any circumstances.
Explaining the registration process, the Health Minister said youth club volunteers will distribute tokens to households. Residents will then be required to visit designated centres with the token, along with Aadhaar card and voter ID, to get their health cards issued free of cost.
