Delhi, 25 Feb 2026- Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) Satnam Singh Sandhu has been appointed as a member of the ‘India-Egypt Parliamentary Friendship Group’ formed by the Union government to boost the bilateral and parliamentary ties between the two countries.
MP Sandhu’s nomination to the Parliament Friendship Group with Egypt was conveyed through an official communication dated February 23, 2026, issued by the Lok Sabha Secretariat (Conference and Protocol Branch). The Parliamentary Friendship Group has been constituted with Egypt for the period of the 18th Lok Sabha.
MP Satnam Singh Sandhu was earlier nominated as a member of the All-Party Delegation that visited Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Algeria, to brief international partners on ‘Operation Sindoor’ which was launched by India in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack which claimed 26 lives and its broader fight against cross-border terrorism.
MP Sandhu was also part of India’s high- powered delegation to the solemn ceremony of the inauguration of the Pontificate of Pope Leo XIV in Vatican City in May 2025. He was also part of the high-level Indian delegation sent by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to witness the ordination of Monsignor George Jacob Koovakad as a cardinal by the Pope at a function to be held in the Vatican City in December 2024.
Expressing gratitude to the Union government for entrusting him with the responsibility, MP Satnam Singh Sandhu said, “I am really honored to be appointed as Member of India–Egypt Parliamentary Friendship Group. India and Egypt, two of the world’s oldest civilizations, have enjoyed a history of close contact from ancient times. Egypt has traditionally been one of India’s most important trading partners in the African continent. India-Egypt diplomatic ties focusing on defense, trade, energy, and technology reached a ‘Strategic Partnership’ level during PM Narendra Modi’s historic state visit in June 2023, the first by an Indian PM since 1997. On the economic front, the current trade volume between India and Egypt stands at about $6 Billion which is expected to double in the coming years as considerable untapped potential lies in sectors such as manufacturing, infrastructure, agriculture, and digital technology. Indian investments in Egypt are currently estimated at around $5 Billion. As both governments are exploring major developmental projects to further deepen bilateral economic cooperation, I am sure this India–Egypt Parliamentary Friendship Group will play a significant role in strengthening bilateral ties and people-to-people relations between India and Egypt by serving as a bridge between the two countries,”.
“India received a great response from the world during the operation Sindoor outreach campaign in more than 20 countries after Prime Minister Narendra Modi took the initiative to send multi-party delegations to various countries to convey India’s point of view on the cross-border operation against terrorism. It showed that on matters of national interest, India speaks in one voice. The formation of India–Egypt Parliamentary Friendship Group is also an important step in this direction,” he added.
