SCD Govt College Ludhiana celebrates 105th birth anniversary of Sahir Ludhianvi

Ludhiana (Punjab), March 8, 2026: The Alumni Association of SCD Government College, Ludhiana, celebrated the 105th birth anniversary of legendary poet and lyricist Sahir Ludhianvi at the college campus on Saturday.
The event was presided over by the college’s distinguished alumnus Shivdular Singh Dhillon, retired IAS officer and currently Secretary-cum-Chief Executive of the Indian Red Cross Society, Punjab. A large number of alumni, faculty members and students attended the programme.
The celebration featured musical renditions of Sahir Ludhianvi’s popular songs performed by alumni with the support of the Afreen Musical Group, recreating the timeless appeal of the poet’s lyrics that left a deep mark on Hindi and Urdu cinema.
Several speakers also reflected on Sahir’s progressive literary legacy and his contribution to poetry and film music. Among those who shared their views were Ravinder Vatsyan, Prof P.K. Sharma, Prof P.D. Gupta, Manjit Singh Badhan and Dr Avinash Sharma from Canada. Poems dedicated to International Women’s Day were also recited during the event.
The programme was jointly compered by Brij Bhushan Goyal and O.P. Verma, drawing appreciation from the audience.
On the occasion, Shivdular Singh Dhillon announced the donation of two special computers with software for visually impaired and differently-abled students of the college. In another gesture, Prof Ashok Kapoor and Prof P.K. Sharma presented competitive examination books worth ₹15,000 to enrich the college library.
The event concluded with participants paying tribute to Sahir Ludhianvi and celebrating his enduring influence on literature and music.
