Across the Border: Pak-Based Foundation marks 95th Martyrdom Day of Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, Sukhdev
Ferozepur, March 23, 2026: The 95th martyrdom anniversary of legendary revolutionaries Bhagat Singh, Shivaram Rajguru, and Sukhdev Thapar was commemorated with fervour in Pakistan by the Bhagat Singh Memorial Foundation.
The ceremony, held under the chairmanship of Imtiaz Rasheed Qureshi, Chairman, witnessed participation from prominent dignitaries including Patron-in-Chief Raja Zulqarnain , Senior Vice Chairman Malik Ihtesham-ul-Hassan, Dr. Shahid Naseer, and Syed Waqar Hussain Shah Jangi, among others. Participants lit candles and raised slogans of “Long Live the Revolution” to pay homage to the martyrs.
Addressing the gathering, Qureshi highlighted that Bhagat Singh and his comrades continue to symbolise resistance against oppression, injustice, and tyranny. They noted that the ideals upheld by these revolutionaries transcend religious, racial, and national boundaries, promoting peace, humanity, and freedom.
The speakers emphasised that Bhagat Singh’s message of communal harmony remains relevant, highlighting that places of worship—mosques, temples, churches, and gurdwaras—stand for peace, and that tolerance and justice are essential for societal progress.
Describing Bhagat Singh as a shared heritage of the subcontinent, the leaders asserted that he is equally revered in both India and Pakistan. A unanimous resolution was passed urging the Government of Pakistan to confer the “Nishan-e-Pakistan” upon Bhagat Singh, while also calling on the Government of India to award him the “Bharat Ratna.”
Another resolution demanded the renaming of Shadman Chowk in Lahore after Bhagat Singh, along with issuance of commemorative postage stamps and coins in his honour. The participants also called for inclusion of his life and struggle in educational curricula to inspire future generations.
The event concluded with a pledge to uphold the ideals of Bhagat Singh and his fellow martyrs—struggle against injustice, establishment of peace, and commitment to a just and humane society.
