Punjab to Acquire Land in Border Belt Across Six Districts for Key Projects

Chandigarh, April 6, 2026:
The Government of Punjab has decided to acquire land in the border belt across six districts for various strategic and infrastructure purposes. The projects include construction of border roads, shifting of barbed wire fencing, and development of infrastructure for the Border Security Force (BSF).
According to an extraordinary gazette notification issued on April 6, the land acquisition will be carried out under the provisions of the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013.
The acquisition will cover areas in key border districts including Ferozepur, Tarn Taran, Amritsar, Gurdaspur, and Pathankot, where specific villages have been identified for the projects.
The notification also provides for compensation and rehabilitation of affected landowners in accordance with the provisions of the Act, while superseding earlier related instructions.It has not been mentioned that how much land area is supposed to be acquired.
The acquisition process is intended to facilitate the construction of border roads and the shifting of fencing in the districts of Fazilka, Ferozepur, Tarn Taran, Amritsar, Gurdaspur, and Pathankot. Under Section 3(g) of the 'Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013', the government has authorized the following Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) with the powers of a Collector within their respective jurisdictions:
