New Delhi, April 27, 2026: Senior advocate Prashant Bhushan has strongly defended Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s decision not to participate in the CBI’s appeal proceedings challenging his discharge, terming the move “correct and justified.”
Bhushan emphasised that, given the facts of the case, there exists a reasonable apprehension of bias, adding that such concerns cannot be overlooked in judicial proceedings. He asserted that Kejriwal’s apprehension appeared justified in the present circumstances.
Kejriwal, in a letter to Justice Swarna Kanta Sharma, had earlier conveyed that he would not pursue the case in the court, either personally or through counsel. He stated that his decision was guided by Gandhian principles of satyagraha and a belief that the proceedings did not satisfy the fundamental principle that justice must not only be done but also be seen to be done.
He further indicated that his participation in the case would not serve any meaningful purpose under the current circumstances.
