Chandigarh, May 1, 2026: Leader of the Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa has written to the Speaker of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha demanding immediate alco-meter and dope testing of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and all Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) during the ongoing session.
In a letter addressed to Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan, Bajwa raised concerns over an incident in the House, alleging that the Chief Minister left without responding to serious remarks made during the proceedings.
Calling the issue a matter of “grave concern” affecting the dignity of the House, Bajwa urged the immediate implementation of a transparent protocol. He proposed mandatory alco-meter testing of all members within one hour, beginning with the Chief Minister, along with comprehensive dope testing of MLAs across both treasury and opposition benches.
The Congress leader also demanded that an independent medical team from the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research be deployed to ensure fair and impartial testing.
Bajwa stated that the Congress Legislative Party (CLP) would not participate in Assembly proceedings unless the Chief Minister undergoes the proposed tests to clear the allegations.
He emphasised that the move is aimed at maintaining accountability, transparency, and the sanctity of the House, adding that the people of Punjab expect the highest standards of conduct from their elected representatives.
