Speaker Sandhwan responds to Sri Akal Takht summons, pledges to appear “As a Humble Sikh”

Amritsar (Punjab), May 3, 2026: Kultar Singh Sandhwan, Speaker of the Punjab Assembly, has issued his first official response after being summoned to Sri Akal Takht Sahib on May 8.
Speaking to media, Sandhwan acknowledged the supremacy of the Akal Takht Sahib and said he would present himself there “as a humble Sikh.” He emphasised that the Akal Takht Sahib is the highest temporal authority of the Sikh community and holds immense significance globally.
Sandhwan stated that whenever a call is received from the Akal Takht Sahib, he considers it his duty to appear. However, he added that he has not yet received any formal written communication regarding the summons.
