New Delhi, May 13, 2026: Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Tuesday said the Centre and the Punjab government would work together on crop diversification and other key agricultural issues after a meeting with Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann in Delhi.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, Chouhan praised Punjab’s contribution to the country and termed the discussions “very constructive”.
“I extend a heartfelt thanks to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. We take immense pride in Punjab, the state that is always the first to face and withstand every crisis that befalls the nation, and I pay my humble respects to the great people of Punjab,” Chouhan said.
The Union Agriculture Minister said both sides held discussions on several issues concerning Punjab, with special focus on crop diversification amid growing concerns over groundwater depletion and over-dependence on paddy cultivation.
“Regarding crop diversification, we have decided that the Centre and Punjab will work together in collaboration,” he said.
Chouhan further stated that Punjab’s other demands were also discussed in detail during the meeting and assured continued support from the Central government for the state and its farmers.
“Both in the past and in the present, we will extend our full support, with all our strength, to meet whatever needs the farmers and the state of Punjab may have,” he added.
