Chandigarh, May 26, 2026: In a major push to modernise healthcare services, the Government of Haryana has enhanced the qualification criteria for Operation Theatre (OT) Assistants, making “B.Sc. OT Technology” mandatory in place of the earlier “10+2 Science” requirement.
The move has been welcomed by the Operation Theatre Assistant Welfare Association Haryana, which termed it a landmark reform for strengthening surgical services and patient safety in government hospitals.
A delegation led by Association President Rahul Jaglan and General Secretary Rajender Singh met Haryana Health Minister Arti Singh Rao in Chandigarh and thanked her for the decision.
The association members said the reform would improve the quality of surgical care and ensure technically skilled professionals handle modern operation theatre equipment in hospitals.
Speaking on the occasion, Arti Singh Rao said the increasing number of surgeries under the Ayushman Bharat scheme had significantly increased the workload on hospitals, making specialised and technically trained staff essential.
She described operation theatres as the “backbone” of hospitals and said skilled OT teams were crucial for safe and successful surgeries.
The Health Minister also urged OT Assistants to continue serving the public with dedication, professionalism and commitment.
