SIT formed on 328 holy images is interfering in SGPC's administrative powers - Advocate Dhami
Babushahi Bureau
Amritsar (Punjab), May 26, 2026: Harjinder Singh Dhami, President of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, on Tuesday strongly objected to the functioning of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted by the Punjab Government to probe the issue related to 328 holy Saroops, alleging that the panel was interfering in the administrative and constitutional rights of the SGPC.
Dhami said the SIT was going beyond its jurisdiction and seeking unnecessary information unrelated to the investigation of the missing holy Saroops.
He stated that the SGPC had fully cooperated with the investigation from the beginning and had provided all required information in accordance with the directions of Akal Takht Sahib. However, he alleged that instead of focusing on the probe, the SIT was unnecessarily involving itself in the internal functioning of the SGPC.
“The investigation team is repeatedly asking for information that has no connection with the 328 holy Saroops matter,” Dhami said.
He further alleged that the SIT had sought details related to SGPC’s financial accounts, bank transactions and agreements with private channels, including ETC and Zee Next Media, regarding Gurbani Kirtan broadcasts over the years.
Dhami said the SIT had even approached banks directly and repeatedly sought information that had already been provided earlier.
He claimed the actions of the SIT indicated that it was working beyond the original purpose of the investigation and attempting to target the constitutional autonomy of Sikh institutions.
Calling the issue sensitive, Dhami said the matter was not limited to the SGPC alone but was linked to the rights and independence of Sikh religious bodies. He urged the SIT to restrict itself strictly to the investigation concerning the 328 holy Saroops.
