In Ferozepur MC Polls, men outnumber women voters, all eyes on counting
Ferozepur, May 28, 2026: The Ferozepur Municipal Council elections witnessed an overall voter turnout of 57.25 percent, with male voters outnumbering women in polling participation. According to official figures, 26,660 men and 21,232 women exercised their franchise during the civic polls held across the city.
Out of a total of 80,123 registered voters, nearly 45,872 voters cast their votes, reflecting moderate public participation in the local body elections. Male voter turnout stood at around 58.67 percent, while female turnout was recorded at 55.69 percent.
Election observers believe the voting pattern has revealed important political and social trends in the city. Traditional vote-bank areas and densely populated localities recorded better turnout, whereas several urban and relatively affluent pockets witnessed lower polling percentages.
The highest polling percentage was reported from Ward No. 33, Booth No. 1, where more than 63 percent voting was recorded. Interestingly, in a few polling booths, women voters surpassed male participation. In Ward No. 30, Booth No. 2, female turnout reached over 62 percent, significantly higher than the male voting percentage at the same booth.
Despite peaceful polling overall, some complaints regarding inadequate facilities at a few polling stations and inconvenience faced by elderly voters also surfaced during the day. However, the administration maintained that the elections were conducted smoothly and peacefully.
With polling now concluded, all eyes are on the counting of votes scheduled for May 29 (today), which is expected to decide the political direction of the Municipal Council and determine the fortunes of several key candidates, including independents. In all, 138 candidates were in fray - BJP 28, Congress 29, AAP 27, BSP 2, SAD 19 and Independent 33 in 33 wards.
