Chandigarh, May 28, 2026 — Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab Media In-charge Baltej Pannu on Thursday launched a sharp attack on Union Minister and BJP leader Ravneet Singh Bittu over his alleged misconduct with Punjab Police officials in Dhuri, accusing him of insulting security forces and lowering their morale for political gains.
Addressing a press conference in Chandigarh, Baltej Pannu said Ravneet Singh Bittu publicly misbehaved with Punjab Police officers in the presence of cameras and allegedly used derogatory language against them.
He described the conduct of the Union Minister as “irresponsible and unacceptable,” adding that such behaviour reflects arrogance of power and disrespect towards the police force.
“Whether it is Punjab Police, the Central Armed Forces or the Indian Army, every security force deserves respect because they work day and night for the safety of citizens. Targeting and demoralising the police for political drama is extremely dangerous,” Pannu said.
Reacting to Bittu’s reported remarks that Punjabis abuse police personnel whenever checkpoints are installed, Pannu said the statement was insulting not only to Punjab Police but also to the people of Punjab.
He said Punjab Police personnel, especially young officers, have significantly improved public interaction and are performing their duties professionally to ensure public safety.
Highlighting the work of the Sadak Surakhiya Force (SSF), Pannu said accident victims are now receiving immediate assistance because of the dedicated efforts of police teams deployed on roads across Punjab.
“Whenever people face theft, attacks, accidents or emergencies, the first call they make is to the police. Honest citizens feel safer when police checkpoints are installed. Only criminals and anti-social elements object to police checking,” he added.
Baltej Pannu also questioned Ravneet Singh Bittu over the recruitment of his brother as a DSP in Punjab Police during the Congress government in 2017. He alleged that several eligibility norms, including age criteria and recruitment procedures, were changed to facilitate the appointment.
“If Ravneet Singh Bittu thinks Punjab Police is so bad, then why did he go to such lengths to get his own brother recruited into the same force?” Pannu questioned.
Contrasting previous governments with the Bhagwant Mann-led Punjab Government, Pannu claimed that over 65,000 government jobs have been provided purely on merit without corruption, bribery or political recommendations.
Demanding an unconditional apology, Pannu said Ravneet Singh Bittu must apologise to the entire Punjab Police force, especially Sub-Inspector and SSP Navjot Kaur, against whom he allegedly used inappropriate language during the confrontation.
“Punjab Police officers earn their positions through hard work, education and competitive examinations, not through political influence or special rule changes,” Pannu asserted.
