Chandigarh, June 5, 2026: Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Friday called upon every citizen to contribute towards environmental conservation by planting at least one tree and nurturing it, marking World Environment Day.
Extending his greetings on the occasion, the Chief Minister recalled that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had launched the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign on World Environment Day in 2024 to encourage public participation in environmental protection and tree plantation efforts.
Saini urged people across the state to actively support the campaign and make environmental conservation a part of their daily lives. He said planting a tree is not merely an act of increasing greenery but an investment in the future and a commitment to upcoming generations.
The Chief Minister planted a sapling at the PWD Rest House in Ladwa, Kurukshetra, to mark the occasion. During his visit, he also interacted with residents of the Ladwa Assembly constituency, listened to their grievances, and directed officials to ensure prompt resolution of public issues.
Emphasizing that environmental protection should not be limited to one-day observances, Saini said every individual has a continuous responsibility to protect nature through meaningful action. He appealed to citizens to plant at least one sapling every year and ensure its proper care until it grows into a mature tree.
Highlighting the importance of sustainable living, the Chief Minister also urged people to completely stop using banned plastic products and switch to eco-friendly alternatives. He called on citizens to spread awareness about the harmful effects of single-use plastic and polythene and contribute towards eliminating their use.
"Only when saplings grow into full-fledged trees can they provide oxygen, shade and support biodiversity," Saini said, stressing the need for collective efforts to build a cleaner, healthier and more sustainable society.
Among those present on the occasion were Deputy Commissioner Vishram Kumar Meena, Superintendent of Police Chander Mohan, SDM Anubhav Mehta, Market Committee Chairman Dr. Ganesh Dutt, Municipal Committee Chairperson Sakshi Khurana, and other dignitaries.
