Chandigarh, June 7, 2026: In a significant development for the Punjab unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), senior leader and former IAS officer Dr. Jagmohan Singh Raju has announced his decision to step away from organisational responsibilities within the party.
Dr. Raju, who currently serves as Punjab BJP General Secretary, has conveyed to the party leadership that he does not wish to hold any organisational position for the time being, citing his desire to devote his full attention to several issues of long-term importance to Punjab and the nation.
Explaining his decision, Dr. Raju said he has been actively engaged with a number of public causes that require sustained efforts, extensive outreach and dedicated involvement. He requested the party leadership to relieve him of major organisational responsibilities so that he can focus his time and energy on these issues.
Among the areas he intends to pursue more intensively are educational rights of underprivileged children, constitutional safeguards for Scheduled Castes and Sikhs, concerns related to religious conversions, the growing drug menace, promotion of the Punjabi language, Punjab's river water disputes, Chandigarh-related issues, and heritage matters of historical and national significance, including those connected with Amritsar.
Dr. Raju has long been associated with advocacy on Punjab-centric issues and has frequently raised concerns relating to governance, education, social justice and cultural preservation. His latest move is being viewed as an effort to dedicate himself more fully to public policy and social causes beyond organisational politics.
A retired IAS officer with extensive administrative experience, Dr. Raju has served the BJP in various capacities, including as State Vice President and General Secretary.
His decision has triggered discussions within political circles about the future role he may play in shaping discourse on Punjab's key challenges.
The BJP leadership is yet to formally respond to his request.
