Cultural Forum Punjab Honours District Language Officer Dr. Jagdeep Sandhu
Ferozepur, June 6: Cultural Forum Punjab (Sabhyacharak Sath Punjab) continued its tradition of promoting literary and cultural activities by honouring noted theatre personality and District Language Officer Dr. Jagdeep Sandhu at a special function held at the organisation’s headquarters.
The event was presided over by Cultural Forum Punjab Chairman Jasmer Singh Dhatt. Eminent playwright Dr. Nirmal Jaura, who attended as the chief guest, praised Dr. Sandhu’s multifaceted contribution to Punjabi theatre, literature, and criticism. He said he had closely witnessed Dr. Sandhu’s journey as an actor, director, and critic. Referring to the acclaimed plays Wapsi and Sudagar, Dr. Jaura noted that Dr. Sandhu’s performances earned appreciation not only in India but also abroad. He further lauded his efforts in successfully promoting literary activities through the Language Department.
Speaking on the occasion, Jasmer Singh Dhatt described Dr. Sandhu as a versatile personality who has made significant contributions as a teacher, theatre artist, and administrator. He highlighted Dr. Sandhu’s active role in Punjabi theatre criticism and his involvement in short films as both a director and actor.
Principal Kumar Jagdev Singh Brar, a poet and theatre artist, emphasized the need for continuity in quality Punjabi theatre criticism and expressed confidence that Dr. Sandhu would continue contributing meaningfully to the field.
Young playwright Dr. Kulbir Malik recalled his association with Dr. Sandhu as a fellow theatre artist and commended his dedication to the stage. He noted that Dr. Sandhu was awarded a Gold Medal by Punjabi University, Patiala, for his achievements in theatre and later received the Punjab State Award for his distinguished services in the Education Department.
Several other speakers also shared their views and appreciated the simple yet impactful event organized by Cultural Forum Punjab.
Among those present were former District Education Officer Jaswinder Singh Virk, Jatinderpal Singh Thanedar, Amarjit Singh Sidhu, singer Watanjit Singh, Baljinder Singh Purba, Harry Saraan (Moga), and Gurmeet Singh Mutkasri.
