Chandigarh, June 15, 2026:Senior Congress leader and Member of Parliament from Gurdaspur, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, has called for the resignation of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on moral grounds following a recent decision by Sri Akal Takht Sahib.
Randhawa stated that the declaration of CM Mann as “anti-Panthic” and a “betrayer of the Guru” by Sri Akal Takht Sahib, after a forensic review of an alleged viral video, marks an unprecedented development in Punjab’s political and religious history.
He said the verdict issued by a committee of five Sikh high priests carries deep significance not only for Punjab but also for the global Sikh community. According to him, such a serious religious pronouncement against a sitting Chief Minister demands immediate moral accountability.
The Congress leader urged CM Mann to respect the authority and traditions of Sri Akal Takht Sahib and resign without delay, while also tendering an apology to the Sikh community. He stressed that the institution holds the highest spiritual and temporal authority in Sikhism and its decisions must be honoured by all public representatives.
Randhawa further noted that Sri Akal Takht Sahib had reviewed an alleged viral video involving the Chief Minister. He said that forensic examination was conducted by two private laboratories, and the findings were presented before the Sikh congregation.
According to the report cited by the Akal Takht leadership, the footage was found to be unaltered and not generated using artificial intelligence, and was assessed to be authentic in nature.
The appeal from Sri Akal Takht Sahib urging the Sikh community to maintain distance from CM Mann, Randhawa added, reflects the seriousness of the situation and its wider implications.
He concluded by reiterating that moral responsibility and respect for religious institutions should guide political leadership in such sensitive matters.
