Talwara (Hoshiarpur), June 14, 2026: Gursleen Kaur, a young achiever from Talwara in Punjab’s Kandi region, has brought laurels to Hoshiarpur district and the state by securing a commission as an officer in the Indian Air Force.
In the results announced on June 8, Gursleen secured an impressive 35th rank nationwide, outperforming nearly 600,000 to 700,000 candidates who appeared for the examination.
Her achievement is particularly noteworthy as only two women from Punjab were selected for the prestigious position. While one candidate from Rupnagar district secured the top rank, Gursleen emerged as the second successful candidate from the state.
Gursleen completed her Class XII (Non-Medical) education at BBMB DAV Public School, Talwara. She later pursued higher studies at Panjab University, earning a B.Sc. (Honours) in Physics followed by an M.Sc. in Physics. Determined to achieve her dream of joining the Air Force, she also completed an M.A. in English from the same university in 2025.
Her journey reflects years of dedication and perseverance. She was recommended three times by the Services Selection Board (SSB) and Air Force Selection Board before finally achieving her goal.
The result of the written examination conducted in August 2025 was declared recently, confirming her selection as a commissioned officer in the Indian Air Force.
Gursleen's father, Dharaminder Singh Baraich, serves as an SDO with BBMB, while her mother, Jaspal Kaur, is a lecturer at Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Talwara.
