Tarn Taran: Accused injured in police encounter after extortion case; Associate escapes

Tarn Taran (Punjab), June 24, 2026: A man accused in a recent extortion-linked firing incident was injured during an exchange of fire with the police in Tarn Taran district on Tuesday, while his accomplice managed to flee the scene.
According to police officials, the accused, identified as Sidakpreet, was allegedly involved in a firing incident related to extortion at a Kheti Store near Sabrah Adda under Sadar Patti police station limits.
Acting on specific inputs, a team of the CIA staff and the in-charge of Chowki Sabrah cornered two suspects travelling on a motorcycle and attempted to apprehend them. During the operation, one of the suspects allegedly opened fire on the police party with the intention of attacking the officers and escaping from the spot.
The police team retaliated in self-defence, during which Sidakpreet sustained three bullet injuries to his legs. His associate, identified as Sunny, managed to escape.
The injured accused was immediately shifted to a hospital for medical treatment. Police said his condition is being monitored.
During preliminary investigation, officials found that the suspects were allegedly involved in the recent extortion-related firing incident at the Kheti Store in Sabrah Adda.
Police recovered a motorcycle and an illegal firearm from the spot. Additional teams have been deployed to trace and arrest the absconding accused.
A fresh FIR is being registered, and further investigation into the case is underway.
