12 Ferozepur Advocates Join Hunger-Chain Strike in Continuing Protest Against LADC Policy
FEROZEPUR, July 30, 2026: Continuing their agitation against the Legal Aid Defence Counsel (LADC) Policy, 12 advocates of the District Bar Association, Ferozepur, today participated in a hunger-chain strike in response to the call given by the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of Bar Associations.
The advocates observing the hunger strike are Damanpreet Kaur, Sabha Yadav, Amanpreet Kaur, Prabhjeet Kaur, Indu Bala, Amit Kumar Sharma, Deepak Khullar, Rajesh Kumar Dua, Sahil Gupta, Vikas Sharma, Manjit Singh Rai and Neel Rattan Sharma.
The hunger strike is part of the series of protests and ‘No Work’ agitation being carried out by Bar Associations against the LADC Policy. The protesting lawyers have been seeking withdrawal/review of the existing policy and restoration of the earlier panel-based system through District Bar Associations. They have maintained that while they fully support free legal aid for needy litigants, the present LADC arrangement adversely affects the professional interests and livelihood opportunities of practising advocates, particularly young lawyers.
The agitation has continued for several weeks, with advocates organising demonstrations and observing ‘No Work’ protests on the directions of the Joint Action Committee. The lawyers have been demanding meaningful consultation with representatives of the Bar before any further implementation of the LADC framework.
As part of the ongoing campaign, Ferozepur advocates had earlier taken out a massive vehicle march comprising more than 100 cars and motorcycles through the city to register their strong protest against the LADC Policy. The march was aimed at highlighting the concerns of the legal fraternity and demonstrating solidarity with Bar Associations across Punjab opposing the policy.
