Ganieve Kaur Majithia writes a letter to Jathedar Akal Takht Sahib; seeks order to attend Vidhan Sabha session

Chandigarh, August 1, 2026: Shiromani Akali Dal MLA from Majitha Ganiv Kaur Majithia has written to Sri Akal Takht Sahib Jathedar, seeking guidance and directions on whether she should attend the special session of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha scheduled for August 3.
In her letter, Majithia referred to the directions issued by Sri Akal Takht Sahib concerning Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and the state government’s handling of the proposed Jagat Jyot Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar (Amendment) Act, 2026.
The MLA stated that Sri Akal Takht Sahib had declared the Chief Minister a “traitor to the Panth” and a “traitor to the Guru”. She also alleged that the Punjab Government had failed to implement the directions issued by Sri Akal Takht Sahib and make the required amendments to the proposed legislation within the stipulated time.
Majithia said that while she was an elected representative, she considered herself “first and foremost a humble Sikh of the Guru”.
“In such circumstances, appearing before a person declared a traitor to the Guru goes against my conscience and religious faith,” she said in the letter.
The Akali Dal MLA also accused the Punjab Government of displaying authoritarian tendencies by using its majority in the Assembly and alleged that the dignity of women was not being respected during legislative proceedings.
She said that the directive of Guru Sahib was supreme for her and that she would accept and follow any order issued by Sri Akal Takht Sahib with complete devotion and commitment.
The letter comes ahead of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha’s special session scheduled for August 3, during which the state government is expected to take up important legislative business.
