Essay writing competition on HIV/AIDS awareness held under Adolescent Education Programme
Ferozepur, August 12: A district-level essay writing competition on the theme “HIV/AIDS Awareness” was organised at PM SHRI Government Senior Secondary School, Bajidpur, Ferozepur, under the Adolescent Education Programme, in accordance with the guidelines of the Punjab State AIDS Control Society and SCERT Punjab.
The competition was held under the guidance of District Education Officer (Secondary Education) Munila Arora, Deputy District Education Officer Dr Satinder Singh, District Resource Coordinator Dinesh Chauhan and District Nodal Officer Amit Kumar Anand.
The theme of the competition was “Empowering Youth to End HIV/AIDS — Awareness, Prevention and Compassion”. Students from Classes 9 to 11 from various schools across Ferozepur district participated enthusiastically. They were given one hour to write a 500-600-word essay in Punjabi, showcasing their creativity and awareness of the subject.
Students who secured the top positions were honoured with certificates and cash prizes. The first-prize winner received Rs 4,000 and will also be specially felicitated by the Health Minister. The second-prize winner received Rs 3,000, while the third-prize winner was awarded Rs 2,000. Two students received consolation prizes of Rs 1,000 each. Certificates of participation were also presented to all participants.
Addressing the gathering, the speakers said that creating awareness among students about HIV/AIDS prevention and encouraging compassionate behaviour towards people affected by the disease was the need of the hour. They said such competitions help promote social responsibility and health awareness among students.
PM SHRI Government Senior Secondary School, Bajidpur in-charge Rakesh Kumar, BRCs Gurpreet Singh, Sandeep Kumar, Kamal Wadhwa and Inderpal Singh made special contributions towards the successful conduct of the event and remained present during the competition.
