Kewal Singh Dhillon rules out alliance with SAD, says party will contest all seats alone

Jalandhar (Punjab), August 25, 2026: Amid speculation over a possible alliance between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) in Punjab, state BJP president Kewal Singh Dhillon has ruled out any such arrangement, saying the party will contest all seats in the state on its own.
Dhillon said the BJP would not enter into an alliance with any political party for the upcoming elections.
“No alliance will be made with anyone. The BJP will contest all seats in Punjab on its own,” he said.
The Punjab BJP chief also claimed that the party was receiving strong support in rural areas of the state, traditionally considered an important support base for regional political parties.
He said the people of Punjab had already given the Congress, SAD and Aam Aadmi Party opportunities to form governments and would now give the BJP a chance to govern the state.
Dhillon also linked Punjab's development performance to the absence of a BJP government in the state. He said the BJP was currently in power in 22 states across the country, while Punjab had not yet elected a BJP government.
“Punjab has lagged behind in development because there is no BJP government here,” Dhillon said, claiming that the state had slipped to the 22nd position on development parameters.
His remarks come amid continuing political speculation over the possibility of a renewed BJP-SAD alliance in Punjab. The two parties had been long-time allies before ending their alliance ahead of the 2022 Punjab Assembly elections.
