Ferozepur, September 28: Punjab Traders Commission Vice Chairman Anil Thakur reviewed the applications and complaints received from traders during a meeting held at the District Administrative Complex here on Monday. Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Dr Amandeep Kaur was also present.
Thakur said the Punjab government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, was committed to protecting the interests and welfare of traders. He said the Traders Commission was working continuously to improve the appearance of markets and facilitate appropriate solutions to problems faced by traders.
He said Punjab had, for the first time, established constituency-level and district-level Traders Commissions to address local issues concerning traders and shopkeepers. At the state level, the Punjab State Traders Commission, headed by the Finance Minister, had also been constituted to maintain direct dialogue with the trading community and resolve their concerns.
Thakur said the Commission was acting as an important bridge between traders and the government. He directed officials of various departments to give priority to the resolution of traders’ complaints and coordinate with the district administration and concerned departments for their early disposal.
During the meeting, issues raised by traders relating to cleanliness, stray animals, public toilets in markets, availability of safe drinking water, bus stops, roads and encroachments were discussed. Thakur directed the concerned officials to ensure their early resolution.
ADC Dr Amandeep Kaur said around 150 complaints had been received from the district, of which almost all district-level complaints had already been resolved. The remaining three complaints, which required state-level coordination, would also be resolved shortly, she added.
She said the progress reflected better coordination between traders and the district administration. The district administration, she added, was making continuous efforts to facilitate smooth commercial activities and provide necessary administrative support to traders.
SDM Zira Suraj, DSP Sukhwinder Singh, District President of the Trade Wing Sukhdev Singh Josan, other Trade Wing members and officials of various departments were also present.
