New Delhi, October 1, 2026: British national Jagtar Singh Johal alias Jaggi Johal was released from Delhi’s Tihar Jail after nearly nine years in custody. Following his release, Jaggi Johal, along with his family, reached Gurdwara Bangla Sahib and paid obeisance and expressed gratitude to Guru Maharaj.
Speaking to the media, Jaggi Johal said that he had come out of jail after nine years and expressed his gratitude to Guru Maharaj. He declined to comment on the court proceedings, saying that the matter is still pending before the court.
His lawyer said that after nearly nine years, the court had passed an order regarding his release, but it took a few days because he was not being released by the jail authorities.
The lawyer said that a petition was filed again before the court today, following which the court directed the jail authorities to ensure his release on the same day.
According to the lawyer, Jaggi Johal was released from Tihar Jail at around 6 pm, after which he went to Gurdwara Bangla Sahib to express his gratitude to Guru Maharaj.
Jaggi Johal said that he would stay in Delhi for now. If he needs to travel to Punjab, he would approach the court for the necessary permission.
