As the democratic process gears up for upcoming elections, the meticulous task of revising electoral rolls is underway in various parts of India. Bathinda district, located in the state of Punjab, is making significant strides in this direction. The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls is nearing completion, a crucial step to ensure that every eligible voter is accounted for and can exercise their right to vote.
According to District Election Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner Rajesh Dhiman, Bathinda district has achieved a remarkable milestone with 99.21% of the SIR work completed. This comprehensive process ensures that the electoral rolls are updated, accurate, and inclusive.
One of the standout achievements within the district is the Maur Assembly Constituency, where the SIR process has been completed 100%. This sets a benchmark for other constituencies to follow suit. In the remaining five Assembly Constituencies, progress is also commendable, with Rampura at 99.53%, Bhucho Mandi at 99.23%, Bathinda Urban at 97.49%, Bathinda Rural at 99.70%, and Talwandi Sabo leading with 99.83%.
The District Election Officer emphasized the importance of including every eligible voter in the electoral roll. To facilitate this, Booth Level Officers (BLOs) are actively reaching out to voters, especially in cases where notices have been issued but hearings or document submissions are pending. This proactive approach is designed to minimize the inconvenience for voters, allowing them to submit necessary documents directly to BLOs rather than visiting offices.
In addition to these efforts, special camps are being organized towards the end of the coming week in constituencies where some work remains pending. These camps aim to accommodate voters' schedules and make it easier for them to participate in the revision process.
To further support voters, district-level help desks have been established to address any queries or concerns related to the electoral rolls. The voter helpline number 1950 is also available for assistance, ensuring that help is just a call away.
The District Election Officer has appealed to all voters to cooperate fully with BLOs and other election officials. Providing the required documents and information promptly will help ensure that the SIR process is completed within the stipulated timeframe. This collective effort is essential for strengthening the democratic process and ensuring that every voice is heard in the upcoming elections.
The near completion of the SIR process in Bathinda district is a example to the dedication and hard work of election officials and BLOs. It reflects a commitment to upholding democratic values and ensuring that every eligible citizen can participate in shaping their future through voting.
