Bathinda: October 2026
Acting on information about a suspected stock of fertilisers and pesticides, a fertiliser enforcement team raided a warehouse in Bhucho Mandi, Bathinda district. During the inspection, officials found stocks of DAP, TSP, NPK, potash and pesticides. Following allegations that the warehouse operator failed to produce the relevant documents and purchase bills, Nathana police registered a case and initiated an investigation. The departmental team has also sealed the warehouse.
According to the information received, on October 28, Fertiliser Inspector Sukhpreet Singh of the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, along with his team, inspected a warehouse located on the Bhucho Mandi–Lehra Bega Road following a tip-off. Various types of fertilisers and pesticides were found stored at the premises.
Some substances were also found kept in white-coloured bags. In addition, empty fertiliser bags belonging to different companies were recovered from the warehouse.
During the inspection, departmental officials asked the warehouse operator to produce purchase bills, stock records and other mandatory documents related to the fertilisers and pesticides. However, according to the complaint, the operator failed to produce the required documents at the spot.
Subsequently, Fertiliser Inspector Sukhpreet Singh lodged a complaint with the police, seeking appropriate legal action.
Based on the complaint, Nathana police registered an FIR under Sections 7 and 8 of the Fertiliser Control Order, 1985; Sections 3 and 7 of the Essential Commodities Act, 1955; and the relevant provision of the Insecticides Act, 1968.
The investigation has been assigned to Inspector Jagdeep Singh.
Meanwhile, the Agriculture Development Officer of Nathana block stated that samples of the fertilisers would be collected from the warehouse in the presence of senior officials and sent to a laboratory for testing. Further action will be taken based on the laboratory report and the facts that emerge during the investigation.
