Patti, Tarn Taran (Punjab), November 3, 2026: Farmers in Tarn Taran district have announced a protest outside the Deputy Commissioner’s office on Wednesday, November 4, against the alleged suspension of paddy procurement, with the Bharatiya Kisan Union Ekta Sangharsh declaring that it will unload the crop at the office gates.
The announcement was made following a meeting of block presidents and the union’s core committee at Gurdwara Dhan Dhan Baba Deep Singh Ji in Bhikhiwind on Tuesday.
Addressing the meeting, union State General Secretary Dilbagh Singh Darajke accused the Punjab government of going back on its promises to farmers and labourers.
He alleged that the government had won public support through big claims but was now taking decisions that were causing hardship to the farming community.
Darajke said farmers were still bringing their paddy crop to mandis, while nearly 20 per cent of the crop was yet to be harvested or remained in the fields.
He alleged that the government had introduced a policy to stop procurement prematurely, leaving farmers vulnerable to exploitation by middlemen and increasing their financial burden.
“The paddy crop is like a child to the farmer. We have raised it with great care, and now we are being forced to bring it to the Deputy Commissioner’s office,” Darajke said, announcing the protest.
The union said farmers would bring their paddy to the Deputy Commissioner’s office on Wednesday to register their opposition to the procurement halt.
The protest announcement comes amid concerns among farmers over the timely procurement of paddy and the difficulties faced by those whose crops are yet to reach the markets.
