Amritsar beats Ludhiana in Punjab’s job hiring; Five districts record no openings: Finploy Data
Amritsar leads Punjab in banking and finance job openings, while Ludhiana tops the list of currently available vacancies. Data covering April 2025 to October 2026 reveals significant regional disparities, with Malwa accounting for 62% of the opportunities.

Chandigarh, November 7, 2026:Amritsar has emerged as Punjab’s leading district in banking and finance job openings, overtaking Ludhiana over the past 18 months. However, five districts in the state recorded no job postings during the period, highlighting the uneven distribution of employment opportunities across Punjab.
According to data compiled by Finploy, a specialised job platform for the banking, financial services and insurance (BFSI) sector, employers posted 350 job advertisements across 18 of Punjab’s 23 districts between April 2025 and October 2026.
These advertisements represented approximately 1,500 openings, as most employers recruited multiple candidates against individual job postings.
Amritsar recorded the highest number of openings at 298, followed by Ludhiana with 248. SAS Nagar (Mohali) accounted for 176 openings, Patiala 169, Jalandhar 162 and Bathinda 149.
The data also indicates that while opportunities are concentrated in a few major districts, smaller towns are gradually emerging as recruitment destinations for banking and financial services companies.
Ludhiana Leads in Currently Available Banking Jobs
Although Amritsar recorded the highest number of openings during the 18-month period, Ludhiana currently has the largest number of vacancies listed on the platform.
As of November 6, 2026, Finploy had 62 active job postings representing 268 openings across 13 districts of Punjab.
Ludhiana topped the list with 60 available openings, followed by Jalandhar and SAS Nagar (Mohali), with 44 each. Amritsar had 28 vacancies, while Patiala had 24 and Bathinda had 16.
According to Archana Jain, Founder and CEO of Finploy, banking and financial services recruitment is increasingly extending beyond metropolitan centres.
“Front-line hiring is moving into smaller cities and towns, where there is less competition for jobs than in the metros. A young person can build a banking career without leaving their district,” Jain said.
Malwa Accounts for 62% of Banking and Finance Job Openings
A regional breakdown of the data reveals that Malwa dominates banking and finance recruitment in Punjab. The region accounted for 951 openings, representing 62% of the total. Majha recorded 314 openings (21%), while Doaba accounted for 262 (17%).
Ludhiana, SAS Nagar, Patiala and Bathinda were among the leading recruitment destinations in Malwa. Six smaller towns — Bathinda, Moga, Faridkot, Mansa, Sangrur and Barnala — together accounted for 301 openings.
The concentration of vacancies is also evident at the district level. The six leading districts — Amritsar, Ludhiana, SAS Nagar, Patiala, Jalandhar and Bathinda — accounted for approximately 79% of the reported openings.
The remaining districts with job postings shared a considerably smaller proportion of the opportunities.

Five Punjab Districts Record No Banking Job Postings
One of the significant findings of the Finploy data is that five districts did not record a single job posting during the period under review.
These districts are:
- Fatehgarh Sahib
- Ferozepur
- Pathankot
- Sri Muktsar Sahib
- Tarn Taran
Gurdaspur recorded 16 openings, while Fazilka had just four.
The figures reflect recruitment activity by employers using the Finploy platform and should not be interpreted as a comprehensive picture of all banking and finance employment in Punjab. Financial institutions may also recruit through their branch networks, local contacts and other hiring channels.
Jain said the absence of job postings in a district should not be interpreted as a lack of employment potential or talent.
“A district with no posting is not a district with no talent. Employers, colleges and training partners can change that map,” she said.
Most Banking Jobs Require Limited Prior Experience
The data offers some opportunities for young people looking to enter the banking and financial services sector, particularly those without extensive work experience.
Approximately 58% of the reported openings required one year of experience or less. Nearly one in five vacancies indicated that candidates with a Class 12 qualification could apply.
The median fixed annual salary stood at Rs 3.6 lakh, while half of the openings offered fixed annual salaries ranging between Rs 3.5 lakh and Rs 4.5 lakh, apart from incentives.
Most of the advertised positions were in front-line sales, relationship management and loan-related services.
However, these jobs often involve meeting targets, travelling and interacting directly with customers, factors that may discourage some young applicants.
Jain said that these requirements also create opportunities for candidates willing to take up front-line roles.
“Many young people avoid field jobs because of targets and travel. That is exactly why the opportunity is there,” she said.
What Can Punjab’s Job Seekers Do?
For candidates interested in entering the banking and financial services industry, the current vacancies offer opportunities across several districts.
Job seekers can explore the latest openings in Ludhiana, Amritsar, Jalandhar, Patiala, Bathinda and SAS Nagar (Mohali), among other locations.
Finploy has listed banking and finance vacancies on its website, finploy.com. Candidates can also apply through WhatsApp at 91375 23589.
Jain advised applicants to familiarise themselves with banking products and services before applying for positions.
She also cautioned job seekers against paying money to secure employment.
“Genuine training may cost money. A genuine job never does,” she said.

About the Data
The analysis is based on Finploy job postings for Punjab between April 23, 2025, and October 31, 2026. The platform recorded 350 job advertisements from 18 employers during this period. Since most advertisements involved multiple vacancies, Finploy counted each posting as representing at least four openings.
The live vacancy figures were taken from finploy.com on November 6, 2026. The data reflects recruitment activity by employers using the platform and does not represent the entire banking and financial services employment market in Punjab.
The unemployment figure cited in the report is based on the Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) for January–March 2026, as reported by Business Today.
