Akali-BJP Alliance: Nitin Nabin Keeps Door Open, Says Decision Will Be Taken at Appropriate Time
BJP National President says top leadership will decide on an alliance; party simultaneously preparing to contest all 117 Punjab Assembly seats
New Delhi, November 7, 2026 | Babushahi Bureau
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has kept the possibility of a future alliance with the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) open ahead of the Punjab Assembly elections, with party National President Nitin Nabin saying that a decision on the matter would be taken by the senior leadership at the appropriate time.
Responding to a question on the possibility of an alliance with the Akali Dal, Nabin refrained from giving a clear yes or no, indicating that the BJP has not ruled out the possibility.
In Exclusive Interview with IANS, Mr Nabin said the party's immediate priority was to strengthen its organisation across all 117 Assembly constituencies in Punjab and complete its election preparations.
"For now, our entire focus is on strengthening the organisation across all 117 Assembly constituencies in Punjab and completing our election preparations. If our strength at the grassroots level increases further, we will move forward in that direction and take the right decision when the time comes," he said.
Nabin's remarks indicate that while the BJP is preparing to contest all 117 Assembly seats independently, it is also keeping its options open on a possible alliance with the Akali Dal.
On the party's electoral strategy, Nabin said the BJP was working to strengthen its presence across Punjab and preparing for the Assembly elections with a focus on all 117 constituencies.
Attack on AAP Government and Congress
Nabin also criticised the Aam Aadmi Party government in Punjab, raising concerns over the state's law-and-order situation and the functioning of the government. He also targeted the Congress, alleging that its promises had failed to translate into meaningful results.
He said the BJP was seeking to present itself as an alternative in Punjab, citing what he described as the shortcomings of the AAP government and the Congress.
The BJP's position on a possible alliance with the Akali Dal is likely to remain a key point of political discussion as parties begin preparing for the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections.
The alliance question now leads the story, with the BJP's preparation for all 117 seats and its criticism of AAP and Congress placed afterwards.
