Chandigarh, November 7, 2026: Chandigarh University has retained its position as India's No. 1 private university for the fourth consecutive year in the QS Asia University Rankings 2027.
The university had secured the top position among private universities in India in the 2024, 2025 and 2026 editions of the rankings as well.
Continuing its rise among leading institutions in Asia, Chandigarh University improved its position by four places to secure the 104th rank among Asian universities in the latest rankings published by London-based ranking organisation QS. Its overall score increased from 66.6 in 2026 to 70.3 in 2027.
The university has made significant progress in the rankings over the past six years, moving from 271st position in 2022 to 104th in 2027, an improvement of 61%, according to the university.
With this achievement, Chandigarh University has secured a higher position than several universities in major Asian countries, including China, Japan and South Korea.
The university also improved its performance across several indicators. It climbed 59 places in the International Research Network (IRN) indicator to secure the 35th rank among Asian universities. It also improved by four places to achieve the 48th position in Employer Reputation.
Welcoming India's performance in the QS Asia University Rankings 2027, Rajya Sabha MP and Chandigarh University Chancellor Satnam Singh Sandhu said the country's higher educational institutions had made significant progress at both global and Asian levels.
"Under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Indian higher educational institutions (HEIs) have made impressive strides, both globally and within Asia, as evidenced by the QS Asia University Rankings 2027. The fact that 325 institutions, including 31 new entrants from India, made it to the QS Asia Rankings 2027 shows that the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 has led to qualitative changes in India's education sector.
"With the Union government further boosting research and innovation, India has well established itself as a formidable competitor among global education powerhouses. With the unprecedented rise in QS Asia University Rankings, more and more Indian institutions than ever before are earning their place on the world stage.
"India has solidified its reputation as an emerging hub for higher learning in Asia, with reforms promoting quality, research, innovation and international collaboration. While IIT Delhi leads the Indian contingent, the spectacular rise of young institutions like Chandigarh University in a short span of time shows the growth and resilience of India's educational landscape in the past 12 years. It reflects India's commitment to fostering academic excellence and enhancing the global competitiveness of its educational institutions," Sandhu said.
Commenting on the university's performance, Chandigarh University Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) S.S. Sehgal said it was a matter of pride that the institution had retained the No. 1 position among private universities in India for the fourth consecutive year.
He said the university had also strengthened its standing among Asia's leading institutions by improving its position to 104th in the latest rankings.
Highlighting the university's research achievements, Sehgal said Chandigarh University had 6,712 patents and 29,824 research publications to its credit. During the past year, it filed more than 964 patents, of which 824 were published and 55 granted. The university also published over 7,578 research papers during the year.
He attributed the university's 35th position in Asia in the International Research Network indicator to its research performance.
On employer reputation, Sehgal said the university ranked among Asia's top 50 institutions. The indicator measures how employers involved in graduate recruitment and hiring perceive universities and their academic programmes.
He further claimed that more than 1,300 multinational companies visit the university campus for placements and made over 10,000 job offers to its students during the previous academic year's campus placement drive.
"Chandigarh University's remarkable performance in the latest QS Asia University Rankings is testament to our unwavering commitment to providing academic excellence and world-class education to our students. Rankings such as these are not just about numbers; they reflect the collective effort of our faculty, staff and students. Being the No. 1 private university, we remain dedicated to continuous improvement and innovation, driving forward with the same passion and determination that has brought us this far," Prof. Sehgal added.
