MP Satnam Singh Sandhu joins construction workers for Vishwakarma Puja at Vishwakarma Temple in Chandigarh
MP Satnam Singh Sandhu hails role of construction workers and labourers in making Chandigarh 'The City Beautiful'

Chandigarh, November 2, 2024: On the auspicious of occasion of Vishwakarma Puja, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) Satnam Singh Sandhu on Saturday performed puja at Vishwakarma Temple at Sector 44 in Chandigarh along with construction workers, craftsmen and artisans from the city and other states including Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.
While Rajya Sabha Member Satnam Singh Sandhu attended the Vishwakarma Puja as Chief Guest, others present on the occasion included Avadhraj Chairman Construction Workers Union of Chandigarh, Ramlal President Construction Workers Union of Chandigarh, Gulab Chand Vice President Construction Workers Union of Chandigarh, Arun Sood, BJP Chandigarh President, Additional Solicitor-General of India Satya Pal Jain and Jatinder Pal Malhotra.
Addressing workers on the occasion, the Rajya Sabha Member said it is believed that on this day Lord Vishwakarma created the universe and made weapons and buildings for the Gods.
“Likewise, labourers have played a great role in making Chandigarh the first planned city of India. Labourers from other states including Uttar Pradesh and Bihar have helped in making Chandigarh which is known as the City Beautiful all over the world. So labourers have same right over Chandigarh as any other segment of the society,” Sandhu said.
Responding to a demand put by the labour associations for a Labour Bhavan in Chandigarh, Sandhu said he has raised this issue in the past with the Chandigarh Administration and he will again take up the issue with the Deputy Commissioner of Chandigarh and Punjab Governor who is also the Administrator of Chandigarh.
“Like other communities in Chandigarh, labourers, construction workers, , craftsmen and artisans also need to have a Labour Bhavan in Chandigarh so that their families can use this Labour Bhavan for their social or family functions like marriages. So I will take up this issue with the Deputy Commissioner of Chandigarh and Punjab Governor,” Sandhu said.
The Member of Parliament said for a Viksit Bharat by 2047, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has already said that labourers will play a key role as they will be actively involved in creating the infrastructure for realizing the vision for a developed India.
“In the past 10 years, PM Modi has done many works keeping labourers of India in focus. Schemes like PM Awas Yojana has not only helped labourers in getting pucca hosues. Under PMAY, labourers are getting benefit of monetary help for making their kuccha houses into pucca houses. This scheme has also created crores of jobs through the construction of over 4 crore houses. Likewise, the ‘One Nation One Ration Card’ scheme has helped labourers and other migrant workers in getting benefit of free and subsidized ration outside their home states. Now they can get subsidized ration from anywhere in the country,” Sandhu said.
Avadhraj, Chairman Construction Workers Union of Chandigarh, said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has shown commitment to the welfare of the poor and marginlised sections of the society in the past 10 years. He said schemes like One Nation-One Ration Card across the country has brought a lot of relief to the poor.
Ramlal, President Construction Workers Union of Chandigarh said PM Modi has launched the PM Vishwakarma scheme to provide workers, craftsmen and artisans from around the country with socio-economic support so as to strengthen these artists and their art forms.
Gulab Chand, Vice President Construction Workers Union of Chandigarh,said under PM Modi’s leadership, the common man is now getting benefit of all government schemes whether it’s PM Awas Yojana, PM Ujjawala Yojana, Jan Dhan Accounts, PM Kisan Nidhi Yojana, Mudra Loans, PM Jeevan Suraksha Yojana, Ayushman etc even in the remotest parts of the country.
“I feel the last man in the row of society is connecting with the mainstream of development,” he added.
