Babushahi Bureau
Mohali (Punjab), April 9, 2025: In light of the rising temperatures, Deputy Commissioner Sagar Setia has directed the health and education departments to implement proactive measures to safeguard public health.
An official advisory has been issued by the Health Department, urging all concerned authorities to ensure the availability of essential items like ORS and zinc packets in every primary school, along with basic medical kits.
Special instructions have been given to take extra care of the elderly and individuals with special needs, as extreme heat can be particularly harmful to these vulnerable groups.
Chairing a meeting with district officials from various departments, the DC emphasized the need for timely action to prevent heat-related illnesses.
The advisory outlines several precautionary steps, including:
- Avoiding outdoor exposure during peak afternoon hours.
- Wearing light-colored, breathable cotton clothing.
- Using umbrellas, hats, or towels to shield from direct sunlight.
- Increasing intake of seasonal fruits and vegetables with high water content, such as watermelon, cucumber, and bottle gourd.
- Drinking plenty of fluids like ORS, lemon water, buttermilk, and coconut water.
Additionally, the public has been advised to keep kitchens well-ventilated, minimize cooking during peak heat hours, and avoid tobacco, alcohol, and caffeinated beverages. Children and pets should not be left in locked vehicles under any circumstances.
For emergency medical assistance, people can contact the toll-free ambulance service at 108 or call 104 for health-related queries.
