Anandpur Sahib (Punjab), October 21, 2026: As many as 253 teachers recruited under the 4161 Master Cadre recruitment drive, who were issued show-cause notices in connection with their dismissal from service, took out a protest march from Gambhirpur to Anandpur Sahib on Wednesday, demanding the withdrawal of the notices and resolution of their pending service-related issues.
The protesting teachers alleged that they had lost their jobs due to administrative and departmental errors for which they were not responsible. They said they had been struggling for the past five months but had yet to receive a satisfactory response from the Punjab government or the Education Department.
Their leaders, Balkar Singh Maghani and Harpal Singh Amritsar, said that the teachers had been compelled to launch an indefinite protest at Gambhirpur, the native village of Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains, following what they described as the government’s continued indifference.
The protest began on October 19, 2026. The teachers had also organised a protest-themed Dussehra outside the minister’s residence.
Baljinder Singh and Lovepreet Singh said Wednesday’s march from Gambhirpur to Anandpur Sahib aimed to draw public attention to their demands and press the government to resolve the matter.
The teachers also joined a protest organised by various employee unions at the Anandpur Sahib bus stand over their financial demands. The participating organisations expressed support for the teachers’ demands, describing them as justified.
The protesters warned that the government would be responsible for the consequences of any adverse decision affecting the teachers.
Ghazalpreet Kaur and Amandeep Kaur said the teachers were demanding the immediate withdrawal of the show-cause notices, clearance of their probation and release of pending financial benefits. They alleged that errors committed by senior Education Department officials had jeopardised their employment.
The teachers said their indefinite protest would continue until their demands were addressed and warned that the agitation would be intensified if the government failed to act.
Representatives of the Government Pensioners Association Punjab, Democratic Teachers Front, Government Teachers Union and Mid-Day Meal Workers Union were also present during the protest.
