Jasbir Jassi comments on PM Modi’s remarks, blames songs and OTT content for children’s use of abusive language

Chandigarh, August 1, 2026: Punjabi singer Jasbir Jassi has responded to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s remarks about children using abusive language, arguing that children are exposed to such language through songs and content available on over-the-top (OTT) platforms.
In a post on X, Jassi said that while the Prime Minister had expressed concern that children were using abusive words, much of the language was being picked up from popular songs and digital entertainment content.
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji said that children used a lot of abusive language. But children have learned these abuses from songs and OTT content. If you ask me, I can send you a list of 1,000 songs,” Jassi said in the post.
The singer described the growing presence of abusive and objectionable content in popular entertainment as a “cultural crime” and questioned why stronger action had not been taken to curb it.
“This is not a cultural shock; it is a cultural crime—something we should have stopped, but are still not stopping,” he said.
Jassi’s remarks have added to the wider debate over the influence of explicit language and objectionable content in songs, films and digital platforms, particularly on children and young audiences. The issue has also drawn increasing public and regulatory attention in recent months.
