Chandigarh, May 27, 2026: The Punjab Government’s continued focus on wildlife conservation and public awareness has led to a sharp rise in visitor footfall at Mahendra Chaudhary Zoological Park, popularly known as Chhatbir Zoo.
Sharing the details, Punjab Forest and Wildlife Preservation Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak said the zoo recorded 2,31,930 visitors during the first five months of 2026, reflecting growing public interest in wildlife preservation and eco-tourism.
The Minister credited the rise in footfall to the sustained efforts of the government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann in promoting awareness about wildlife protection and environmental conservation.
According to official figures, the zoo welcomed 48,719 visitors in January, 54,216 in February, 66,377 in March, 40,168 in April and 22,450 visitors in May so far.
Highlighting recent developments at the zoo, Kataruchak said several conservation-oriented initiatives have been introduced to improve visitor experience and strengthen awareness efforts. He said the country’s largest and longest walk-in aviary has emerged as a major attraction for visitors.
The Minister further informed that an ultra-modern dinosaur park has also been developed within the zoo premises to provide an educational and recreational experience, especially for children and families.
He added that the Punjab Government remains committed to strengthening wildlife conservation infrastructure while encouraging people to connect with nature and biodiversity.
