DMC conducts surprise inspection at De-addiction Centres in Ferozepur
Our focus is on quality healthcare services and patient rehabilitation – Dr. Gurmej Ram
Ferozepur, March 2, 2025: As part of the Punjab government's ongoing campaign against drug abuse, the Health Department teams, under the directions of Civil Surgeon Dr. Rajwinder Kaur, conducted surprise inspections at government and private de-addiction and rehabilitation centres across the district.
Led by Deputy Medical Commissioner Dr. Gurmej Ram, the team visited Deep and Ekta De-addiction Centres in Zira, along with Jeevan Daan Rehabilitation Centre and Naveen Kiran Rehabilitation Centre in Makhu. The officials thoroughly examined the healthcare facilities and management systems in place. Additionally, the team inspected the Outpatient Opioid Assisted Treatment (OOAT) centre in Zira.
During the inspection, Dr. Gurmej Ram interacted with patients and reviewed various wards. He instructed the medical staff to engage patients in physical activities to aid their recovery from drug addiction. The attendance registers and medicine stock records were also checked, with strict directions to maintain updated records and ensure no negligence in patient care.
Emphasizing the importance of empathy, Dr. Ram urged staff to treat patients with love and compassion, even in challenging situations. He reiterated that the sole objective of the district health department is to rehabilitate drug and mentally ill patients, restoring them to a healthy life.
"Drug addiction is like any other disease, and its treatment is entirely possible. Patients need to cooperate with the staff and stay determined on their recovery journey," said Dr. Ram. He highlighted the importance of providing facilities like open gyms, televisions, music systems, and recreational activities to create a homely environment for patients, steering their minds away from addiction.
The DMC also appealed to the public to encourage individuals seeking to quit drugs to approach government health centres, where free treatment and necessary medical care are provided.
On this occasion, Ankush Bhandari, Deputy Mass Media Officer, Vikas Kalra, PA and staff nurse Karnjeet Singh were present.
