Chandigarh, April 6, 2025: After nearly five months of fasting, prominent farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal has officially ended his fast unto death, declaring that while his hunger strike is over, his fight will continue. Farmer leader Jagjeet Singh Dallewal announced the end of his indefinite protest during the Mahapanchayat in Sirhind.
Dallewal, who began his fast on November 26, 2024, had been a key figure in the farmers' protest movement and had remained steadfast even after the Shambhu-Khanauri Morcha was forcefully ended by the Punjab government. He had been hospitalized during his fast, but was discharged only yesterday, reaffirming that his hunger strike would continue.

However, in a dramatic turn today, Dallewal arrived at a public program in a wheelchair and made the surprise announcement to end his fast.
“I may be ending my fast, but the struggle is far from over,” he said, addressing the gathering.
While expressing hope that dialogue with the central government would progress, Dallewal did not hide his disappointment with the Punjab government, criticizing it for using police force to dismantle the protest.
“We expected support, but the state chose suppression,” he said sharply.
Dallewal's decision to end the fast is seen as a strategic shift in the farmers' movement, emphasizing sustained political pressure and dialogue over physical sacrifice. His fast had become a symbol of resistance and had garnered national attention.
