India’s first SC Commission Courtroom launched in Punjab

Chandigarh, November 18, 2025: In a landmark move to enhance access to justice for the Scheduled Caste community, the Punjab State Scheduled Castes Commission today inaugurated its newly constructed Court Room.
The facility was formally opened by Commission Chairman S. Jasvir Singh Garhi and Shri V.K. Meena, IAS, Principal Secretary, Department of Social Justice, Empowerment & Minorities.
This Court Room is the first of its kind in the country under any State Scheduled Castes Commission, marking a historic advancement in institutional support for marginalized communities and setting a model for other states to emulate.
Speaking at the inauguration, Chairman Garhi said the new Court Room would significantly improve the speed and efficiency of hearings, ensuring timely disposal of cases and reinforcing the Commission’s commitment to protecting the rights and dignity of Scheduled Castes. He added that the upgraded infrastructure would help uphold transparency, professionalism, and fairness in proceedings.
The Court Room is equipped with modern facilities and a structured seating system designed to support smooth, delay-free hearings.
Chairman Garhi also announced that the Commission will soon roll out an Online Court System, enabling complainants to participate virtually—reducing travel, saving time, and making the justice process more accessible for the public.
The event was attended by Smt. Gauri Parashar Joshi, IAS, Secretary, General Administration Department; Dr. Nayan Jassal, Member Secretary; Commission Members Shri Gulzar Singh, Shri Gurpreet Singh, Shri Rupinder Singh; and the entire staff of the Scheduled Castes Commission.
