Ropar, September 19, 2024:
Lance Naik Baljit Singh, who was martyred in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district, was cremated with full state honors at his native village Jhaj's cremation ground today.
Notably, 29-year-old Lance Naik Baljit Singh, son of Late Santokh Singh, was part of the Indian Army's 57 Engineer Regiment's 2 Para Special Force. He sacrificed his life on Tuesday during duty when the army vehicle fell into a 200-feet-deep gorge in the Manjakote area while confronting terrorists. Four other soldiers were critically injured in the accident.
Today, Indian Army officials first brought Lance Naik Baljit Singh's mortal remains wrapped in the national flag to his native village Jhaj, and then to the cremation ground. A military contingent from Chandimandir presented a gun salute and offered their final respects to the martyr by firing ceremonial shots in the air.
On this time Punjab government representatives, including Rupnagar MLA Dinesh Kumar Chadha, former MLA Amarjit Singh Sandoa, SDM Rajpal Singh Sekhon, Naib Tehsildar Ritu Kapoor, DSP Ajay Singh, SHO Gurvinder Singh Dhillon, and other political and social dignitaries attended. The martyr's brother, Sulakhan Singh, lit the pyre. Lance Naik Baljit Singh's wife, Amandeep Kaur, and mother, Sukhwinder Kaur, were overcome with grief. The entire village mourned, with everyone's eyes moist.
