Majithia’s court appearance sparks security clampdown; court staff allege police misconduct

SAS Nagar (Punjab), July 1, 2025: The court production of Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia in a high-profile drug money laundering case triggered a significant security clampdown in SAS Nagar on Wednesday, with multiple court employees alleging misconduct by police personnel deployed at the site.
According to a formal complaint submitted to the District and Sessions Judge by over 20 judicial staff, several employees were reportedly harassed and denied entry to the court complex despite presenting valid government-issued identity cards. The disruptions occurred during Majithia’s appearance before the Duty Magistrate on June 26, amid heightened police presence and restricted access in and around the court premises.
The complainants claimed they were forced to park their vehicles nearly 4–5 kilometres away and walk to court due to all parking areas being cordoned off. Some alleged that police personnel used abusive language and threatened them with “serious consequences” if they insisted on entering.
The letter further alleges that female court officials were subjected to inappropriate behaviour by male police personnel, and members of the Copying Agency were denied access to their designated rooms.
Several staff members also reported that their ID cards were challenged, and unnecessary re-verification was demanded by the police on duty.
“This kind of treatment not only obstructs judicial functioning but also undermines the dignity of court officers,” the complaint reads, urging the judiciary to ensure that such interference does not recur during future high-security court productions.
.Authorities have yet to issue an official response to the allegations.
Bikram Singh Majithia is currently facing charges in an ongoing investigation related to alleged drug trafficking and money laundering. His court productions have frequently attracted heavy security due to the political sensitivity and public attention surrounding the case.
