Chandigarh, July 1, 2025: Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Bikram Singh Majithia has approached the Punjab and Haryana High Court challenging his arrest and judicial remand in connection with FIR No. 22 dated 25.06.2025, registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018).
In his petition, Majithia has sought relief against what he terms an “illegal arrest” and has urged the court to quash the remand order passed by Judicial Magistrate Kirandeep Singh on June 26, which extended his custody till July 2.
Majithia has alleged that the FIR — filed under Sections 13(1)(b) and 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act — is politically motivated, designed to target and silence a prominent critic of the ruling dispensation.
He contends that the case is part of a larger campaign to harass opposition leaders.
