Chandigarh, December 5, 2025: The alleged violence and chaos reported during the nomination process for Zila Parishad and Block Samiti elections on December 4 in Punjab has now reached the doors of the court. Leader of Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa on Friday approached the Punjab and Haryana High Court, seeking intervention over the incidents that unfolded during the filing of nomination papers.
Bajwa has filed a petition alleging violence against Congress candidates, misuse of power, and discrimination during the nomination process. Considering the seriousness of the matter, the Hon’ble Chief Justice accepted an oral mention, and the case has now been listed for hearing on Monday, December 8, 2025.
In the petition filed through his counsel Arshpreet Khadial, Bajwa has urged the court to extend the nomination deadline for those candidates who were unable to submit their papers due to the alleged violence and disruptions.
The petition also calls for strict action against police officials who allegedly acted under the directions of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government and either failed to control the violence or displayed bias. Bajwa has accused the police and administration of undermining democratic principles through misuse of authority.
To ensure free and fair elections, Bajwa has demanded the appointment of an independent observer to monitor the entire electoral process. He argues that without impartial oversight, the chances of malpractice remain high.
