Punjab and Haryana HC on High Alert After Bomb Threat

Chandigarh, May 22, 2025:
The Punjab and Haryana High Court was completely evacuated today following a threatening email warning of a bomb attack on the premises, as confirmed by the High Court Bar Association (HCBA). The evacuation was carried out as a precautionary measure, and police teams are currently conducting a thorough investigation within the court complex.
HCBA Honorary Secretary GaganDeep Singh stated that the association was informed of the bomb threat email, prompting immediate action to clear the court building. "We were notified about a threatening email claiming the High Court would be blown up. Taking no chances, we ordered the evacuation of the premises. An investigation is underway," Singh said. He further noted that even if the threat turns out to be part of a mock drill, the Bar Association is unwilling to take any risks, given that the court sees a daily footfall of 12,000 to 15,000 lawyers, judges, and visitors.
A notice issued earlier by Singh had urged all members of the Bar to remain vigilant and report any suspicious or unclaimed objects to the HCBA office immediately. Court proceedings have been suspended, and the High Court will remain closed until at least 2:00 PM today, pending the completion of the police investigation.
Security has been significantly heightened, with law enforcement agencies working to ensure the safety of the premises. This incident follows recent regional tensions, including ongoing water-sharing disputes between Punjab and Haryana, which have been under discussion in the court. Authorities have not released further details about the email, and updates are awaited as the investigation progresses.
