Retail Traders to observe October 2 as ‘No UPI Day’

New Delhi/Mumbai, September 29, 2026: October 2 on Gandhi Jayanti, Indian retail traders will observe a ‘No UPI Day’ to protest against levy of Merchant Discount Rate (MDR) on payments above Rs. 2000.
The All India Mobile Retailers Association (AIMRA) and The All India Consumer Products Distributors Federation (AICPDF) have given a call for the same. Around 4.5 Lakh distributers and 1.3 crore retailers will participate in this agitation.
Traders have estimated that new MDR rates will result in Rs. 7000 crore to Rs. 9000 crore additional burden on them.
