Saragarhi Day celebrated over simple ceremony amid Corona effects
Ferozepur, September 12, 2020: The Saragarhi Day celebrations were held at Saragarahi Gurudawara to pay homage to 22 valiant 36 Sikh Regiment soldiers of the British Indian Army who died fighting 10,000 Afridis during the Battle of Sargarhi on September 12, 1897, in North-West Frontier Province, now in Pakistan.
The function was conducted in a simple manner following the instructions of the health department in the wake of corona virus.
The bhog of Sri Akhand Path which started at Gurudwara Saragarhi in memory of the martyrs of Saragarhi war was held on Saturday. Gurpal Singh Chahal, Deputy Commissioner, Ferozepur, MLA Kulbir Singh Zira and Amit Gupta, SDM were present on this occasion.
DC said that Saragarhi Day is celebrated every year on 12th September every year in the memory of the martyrs of Saragarhi War.
He further said that the sacrifices of the brave heroes of the Sikh Regiment who were martyred in the battle of Saragarhi which was one of the ten most important battles of the country could never be forgotten.
DC said, during the battle of Saragarhi 21 Sikh jawans had faced the enemy forces in large numbers and had fought valiantly and achieved martyrdom. He said that this sacrifice would always inspire our children to come forward for national service.
The campus is likely to get a face-lift with the release of grant Rs.1 core by Chief Minister. However, the procedural wrangles had hit the development work.
