Gurugram DC Nishant Kumar honors 510 volunteers of NSS and NCC for helping on polling day
Successful Implementation of Youth Volunteer Initiative in Lok Sabha

Chandigarh, June 1, 2024- The recent elections for the 18th Lok Sabha, held in Gurugram, were marked by a successful and heartening initiative involving young volunteers from the National Service Scheme (NSS) and the National Cadet Corps (NCC).
In the same sequence, 510 volunteers of NSS and NCC, who assisted voters at about two hundred centers in Gurgaon and Badshahpur assembly constituencies, were honored by Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer, Sh. Nishant Kumar Yadav for their excellent service.
This initiative, aimed at enhancing the voter experience and fostering democratic engagement among the youth, has been met with resounding success. Trainee IAS, Sh. Anirudh Yadav was also present in this program organised at the Mini Secretariat.
DC, Sh. Nishant Kumar Yadav praised all the volunteers for their commendable services and also honoured them by presenting certificates. Motivating all the volunteers to continue social services, he said that voters play an important role in a democratic system.
He said that a dedicated team of 480 NSS and 30 NCC volunteers participated in this initiative, offering services across more than 200 polling booths.
These enthusiastic young volunteers performed various crucial tasks, contributing significantly to the smooth conduct of the elections. The duties assigned to them included:
1. Assistance to the Elderly: Providing support to the senior citizens to ensure they could cast their votes with ease and comfort.
2. Assistance to Persons with Disabilities (PwD) and Infirmity: Offering help to voters with disabilities, ensuring they faced no hindrance in exercising their democratic rights.
3. Traffic and Queue Management: Managing the flow of voters to maintain order and minimise waiting times.
4. Serving Water and Electrolyte Solutions: Distributing water and ORS to voters standing in line, particularly important due to the prevailing heat wave conditions.
5. Assisting Voters to Find Their Booths: Helping voters locate their designated polling booths quickly and efficiently.
DC, Sh. Nishant Kumar Yadav stated that the zeal and enthusiasm demonstrated by these volunteers were commendable.Their efforts not only facilitated a seamless voting process but also highlighted the importance of youth involvement in civic duties.
By engaging in this initiative, the young volunteers gained valuable insights into the democratic process and their roles and responsibilities as futurecitizens.This initiative underscores the potential of our youth to make significant contributions to society.
