Chandigarh, September 18, 2024 – The Readers Club of Goswami Ganesh Dutta S.D. College Library hosted an engaging literary session titled “Talking Words, Spinning Stories” on September 18, 2024 featuring acclaimed poet, columnist, and translator, Nirupama Dutt.
The event drew literature enthusiasts from the college and beyond, making it an inspiring and insightful hour-long event, which led to a thirst for more words and stories. The event also had an interlude of a book-launch.
Commencing with a green welcome to the guest speaker, the session was inaugurated with a formal welcome note by Dr. Ajay Sharma, Principal of the college, emphasizing the importance of fostering a love for literature among students, followed by an inaugural address by Dr. Anirudh Joshi, General Secretary, who reflected on the power of words and stories.
The Organizing Secretary Dr Manisha Gangahar offered a brief introduction about the Speaker and her works.What Nirupama Dutt brought to the podium was delightful weave of anecdotes, poetry excerpts and stories.
Her talk was not only thought-provoking but also inspiring for the budding writers in the audience. She shared her thoughts and experiences as a writer and translator, while insisting upon the importance of preserving cultural narratives through literature.
She stated, "Translation and journalistic practice are invaluable tools for budding authors, offering them broader perspectives and the ability to connect diverse narratives.”Her talk resonated deeply with the audience, offering valuable perspectives on the power of storytelling.
The event also marked the official release of ‘In the Silence Under the Stars’ by Nyssa Gupta, a student of GGDSD College and a young emerging poet, whose work received an enthusiastic response from attendees.
The interactive Q&A session, moderated by Ananya Abrol, gave the audience an opportunity to engage directly with Nirupama Dutt, resulting in a lively exchange of ideas on writing, translation, and the challenges faced by contemporary authors.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Gurpreet Singh Sohal, convenor of Readers Club and head Librarian who expressed gratitude to the speaker, participants, and organizers for making the event a success.
Dr. Pratibha Kumari, Dr. Monica Sethi, Ms. Ritika Sinha, Dr. Shweta Sharma Mr. Balpreet Singh, Ms. Richa Vashista ,Ms. Jyoti Mani from the faculty were also present.
